Jon M. Chu: TED Radio Hour: NPR
Ever since he started shooting movies at home with his family’s bulky video camera, Jon M. Chu knew he wanted to be a filmmaker. But after an early success in Hollywood, after directing several big budget feature films, including GI Joe: Retaliation and Now you see me 2Jon realized that he didn’t feel inspired by the projects he was bringing to the big screen.
Inspired by a growing campaign to feature more Asian actors and creators on and off screen, Jon decided to use his influence to launch and direct the 2018 rich fool Asians, the first Asian-majority Hollywood film in 25 years. Fueled by a fervent popular campaign, Crazy Rich Asians became the most successful romantic comedy of the 2010s.
We featured Jon M. Chu on the recent episode of TED Radio Hour The voice of the artist. With the premiere of his latest film In the heights, wanted to share an extended special cut from his interview with Manoush.
