Around the Corner Fabrics, a new store specializing in tailoring and fabric, has opened in the old Kentucky Theater in Latonia (13 W. Southern Avenue). Kelly Niceley, the store owner, says she expects to host a grand opening for the location on Jan.15.
“I grew up in sewing for a few generations and always loved it, but the two long-standing local Northern Kentucky quilt shops had retired, so we had been without them for a few years – no. big box retailers, “Niceley said.” So many people have gone crazy about mask making and therefore tailoring has become a bit more in the foreground. I really believe it is a life skill sewing is a life skill and I think everyone should know how to sew. ”
Niceley said customers can find helpful and knowledgeable staff in her store keen to help them with their next project. She also recognized that her store is more suited to quilters, but hopes to expand her product selection to include vinyl, cork and more, in addition to offering classes in her dedicated 300 square foot classroom from January and February next. She also added that the shop offers full service quilting equipment such as long arm quilting, finishing, embroidery, etc.
“It was just a good fit, there was a need again in the community because everyone was crossing the river and they were just a little bit fed up with it, so we’re happy to bring it back,” Niceley said. .
Around the Corner Fabrics also offers handmade gifts like quilts, soft fabric toys and pillows which are already designed for people who want to give something handmade but don’t have the time.
