Truckee Arts Alliance Announces Mark Salinas as New Director
The Truckee Arts Alliance, a project funded by the Nevada County Arts Council, is pleased to announce that Mark Salinas has been appointed its new trustee. Salinas brings over 20 years of leadership experience in the public, private and non-profit sectors in urban and rural communities.
“We are truly delighted that Mark is providing both much needed administrative support and leadership,” said Lauren O’Brien, Co-Founder of Truckee Arts Alliance. “He has a unique range of strategic and political expertise and substantial experience in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the arts.
Cassie Hebel, Truckee Arts Alliance’s Advisory, says, “We conducted inclusive research and received compelling applications from everywhere. Out of an eligible pool of nearly forty applicants, we interviewed some really great applicants. Mark stood out for his local knowledge, his solid background in public art, his experience building coalitions and his willingness to participate.
Mark has served the creative economy in leadership roles in the public, private and nonprofit sectors, and as a creative contributor and manager to the museum, gallery, fashion, film and theater industries during over 25 years. As the founding director of arts and culture for Carson City, Nevada, he wrote the public art policy; state and federal administered grants; organized a new municipal art collection; and spearheaded the City’s cultural equity goals.
Her equity efforts have been recognized at state and national levels, and in 2019 Nevada Humanities, a state council affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities, honored her efforts at cross-sectoral inclusion with their Rising Star Award.
Mark is originally from New York City, where he founded a commercial manufacturing company and nonprofit community arts organization, and worked on public art commissions by the Times Square Arts Alliance, the design and construction department. of New York, the New York Department of Transportation, the historic House Trust of NYC, and the Tahoe Fund.
He graduated in sculpture, fashion design, and couture, and his artist residencies have taken him from the United States to Europe. Mark is currently a board member of Art Spot Reno, the City of Reno Arts & Culture Commission, the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, the Nevada Arts Council, and the American for the Arts Public Art Network Advisory Council.
Eliza Tudor, Executive Director of Nevada County Arts Council, said of the new Truckee Arts Alliance recruit, “Mark is an exceptional addition to our Alliance team. At a time when it has never been more important to take advantage of important state designations such as our two cultural districts of California in Nevada County, Mark will support our work with several partners and stakeholders, including the Town of Truckee, Truckee Chamber and Truckee Downtown Merchants. Association, as well as state-level stakeholders, such as the California Arts Council and our own arts organizations and the Eastern Nevada County creative scene. Together, we will take a multisectoral approach to economic and social recovery from the pandemic. “

Truckee Arts Alliance inspires, catalyzes and champions art and culture in Truckee and eastern Nevada. It engages the Truckee arts community as one “voice” for the arts and supports the work of Truckee Cultural District through the California Cultural District Program.
