Vaping advocates and leaders stage successful DC rally ahead of PMTA deadline and industry-killing November election
Organized by the United Vapers Alliance, activists have demonstrated peacefully to show the world that “We Vape, We Vote” is a movement that has the influence to disrupt the upcoming election with millions of potential votes up for grabs. Vaping advocates have vowed to continue to push elected officials to reject prohibitionist policies that threaten access to life-saving vapor products.
“If President Trump does not implement real reform at the FDA, he not only risks the destruction of an American industry, but he will also create a situation in which millions of former adult smokers could revert to deadly combustible cigarettes. “, said Dimitris Agrafiotis, who is executive director of the Tennessee Smoke-Free Association. “HHS Secretary Alex Azar promised a reform of the PMTA, but he did not keep his promises. Now it’s up to President Trump to stop the FDA from destroying 99% of the industry and leaving 160,000 Americans out of work amid the COVID-19 pandemic. ”
Despite the fear of interest groups, the manufacturers of vapor products are not Big Tobacco and their tech products should not be subject to the same regulations. Studies have repeatedly shown that vapor products expose users to a tiny fraction of the harmful chemicals in cigarettes. Millions of adults in the United States have successfully quit smoking through vaping products.
Over 20 consumer vaping advocates shared life-changing stories during the rally on their journey to vaping and how it has positively impacted their friends and family since they switched to a fashion. of life without tobacco. They were also joined by guest speakers and industry leaders. Dimitris Agrafiotis, executive director of the Tennessee Smoke-Free Association; Amanda wheeler, president of Rocky Mountain Smoke-Free Alliance; and Gregory Conley, president of the American Vaping Association.
This is UVA’s second annual Save the Vape gathering and they continue to ask vaping advocates across the country to call the White House switchboard and say, “We Vape, We Vote.”
About United Vapors Alliance
United vaping alliance (UVA) educates the public and politicians on the benefits of harm reduction via vapor-based products, and strongly emphasizes that changes must be made, within the FDA, to provide an economically viable route to market . Currently, the FDA’s market entry route is not accessible to small and medium-sized manufacturers. The only entities that can afford the FDA’s path to market are Big Tobacco, while more than 11,000 family-owned vaping businesses will be shutting down. Without dispute, 99% of steam products will leave the market in September 2020. UVA does this through social media, public events, and grassroots activism.
